as you know, based on Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine’s decision of 11.03.2020, all the classes have been cancelled till April 04 due to COVID-19 quarantine.
That means, we’re going full digital and continue the course on Moodle until the further notice!

February 11, EUVOLIA alumni led by Stan Cherkasov, our project coordinator, took part in a public discussion “Euromap of Ukraine. Where’s Zaporizhzhya in regional Eurointegration rating?” held by The New Europe Centre as a wrap up event for their research project in regional Europintegration dynamics funded by IRF, OSIF and the Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine and supported by the USAID Civic Activity Support Program.
The discussion was moderated by Sergiy Solodky, first Deputy Head of the New Europe Center, alongside with Daria Gayday (the adviser to the Vice-Minister of European and Euroatlantic Integration of Ukraine), Artur Boyko (the Head of Zaporizhzhya regional state administration’s International Relations Department), Askad Ashurbekov (political expert and sociologist), Olesia Kramarenko (Dzyga NGO director) and Olha Makjyuk (Head of the Chair of the World History and International Relations of ZNU). The participants discussed best EU standards and practices to be disseminated in Ukrainian regions in order to boost the Eurointegration processes there. They highlighted that the very term “Eurointegration” has ceased to be the property of expert community and has been widely used as a denominator for positive changes. Detailed info available here:
The last day of January brought yet another group of students eager to study European Values in Literary Arts into a convenient European Studies Hall of Zaporizhzhya National University.
This year, the bulk of the group consists of the students from the faculties of Mathematics and Law. However, due to an open enrollment, a number of students from other faculties – those of Philology, History and Foreign Philology – has also joined us due to a positive feedback provided by our alumni.
After the general presentation given by EUVOLIA module leaders Olena Tupakhina and Kateryna Vasylyna, the students took part in traditional team-building exercises. They were asked to commend themselves in 3 nouns (this time coffee lovers win in both of groups :)), shared ther hobbies (all of our students have pets!) and decided upon a set of rules to be developed to survive on an isolated island (which is, as we know, the best way to work out the teamwork principles).

EUVOLIA has been gradually expanding all over the university: next year, we would deliver our course to two groups in a row – those of the Faculty of Law and of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. We would also enable participation for the rest of the faculties on a volunteering basis.
Tuesday, December 17, EUVOLIA team presented the course to the prospective attendants and found out what was the reason behind their choice of subject.
As it had been expected, extensive reading was one of the key motivator, thus debunking the wide-spread stereotype of Ukrainian youth’s indifference to books. EUVOLIA provides a wonderful opportunity to discuss your favourite books with peers and teachers!
An unusual format of the course is second popular choice, with the group projects specifically pointed out as an attractive alternative to a traditional exam. EUVOLIA totally boosts your creative thinking!
We were extremely pleased to learn that some of our students had been motivated by positive feedback provided by EUVOLIA alumni. Hope that would turn into a steady tendency!
What is also important, the necessity to learn more about the European thinking framework has become more evident among Ukrainian students. They would undoubtedly be the first generation of Ukrainians to share the EU cultural space to a full extent, and EUVOLIA would do its best to guide them through ?
Within three weeks, we’ve got over 40 applications for the pilot session of EUVOLIA course! We feel really inspired and would start the selection procedure asap. Please check your mail regularly not to miss a letter from Hogwarts 🙂
December 12, Kyiv National Mykola Dragomanov University hosted an International conference “European Values and Social Cohesion in Education” organized by Jean Monnet SCEGES team. This outstanding event united experts in such challenging and burning issues of the current Ukrainian educational agenda as social inclusion, XXI century’s competencies framework, EU educational policies, LLL, the concept of modern community-oriented university etc. As Maria Nesterova, SCEGES coordinator, has aptly pointed out in her welcoming speech, the European values should serve as a backbone for pedagogical education system designed specifically for the New Ukrainian School.
Among the speakers that represented institutions from all over the EU and Ukraine, Olena Tupakhina from EUVOLIA team reported upon the project’s challenges and successes in introducing an innovative, value-oriented course. Olena’s report entitled “Value-oriented approach in teaching Humanities: EUVOLIA experience” combined social surveys data analysis with the demonstration of innovative methods developed within EUVOLIA methodological framework to shape the students’ values sets.

Ось і добіг кінця черговий модуль EUVOLIA, учасниками якого цього разу стали студенти факультетів журналістики та слов’янської філології. Захопливий інтерактивний курс-подорож крізь літературні епохи традиційно завершився відкритим захистом проектів, які наочно продемонстрували усі накопичені нашими слухачами навички й знання.
Так, проект “Європейські цінності у серіалі “Перші ластівки” представив у новому світлі не лише вічне питання стосунків батьків і дітей, але й екзистенціальну проблему пошуку сенсу буття в абсурдному, байдужому світі. У фокусі уваги авторів серіалу опинилася, передусім, дихотомія Я – Інший (його герої-підлітки маргіналізовані через сексуальну орієнтацію, зовнішність, соціальний статус тощо), яку вдається подолати за допомогою переорієнтації зображеного у творі шкільного колективу на європейську систему цінностей: повагу до особистості та людської гідності, визнання ультимативної цінності людського життя.
Натомість, проект “Ціннісні орієнтири у реаліті-шоу “Супер-жінка” наочно продемонстрував широкий спектр гендерних стереотипів, пропагованих через розважальні медіа-продукти. Майстерний аналіз трьох представлених у шоу “конвенційних” типів жіночості (“красуня”, “берегиня”, “бізнес-вумен”) та типажа “чоловіка-експерта” на рівні зовнішньості, поведінки, мовлення, техніки зйомки переконливо підкреслив такі вади медійного продукту, як сексизм, об’єктивація, мізогінія тощо.
Нарешті, проект “Система цінностей у фільмі “Я, ти, він, вона” виразно проілюстрував “транзитивну” аксіологію українського суспільства, що дається взнаки в еклектичній суміші східних і західних, “традиційних” і “європейських” ціннісних парадигм. При цьому, як слушно зауважили виконавиці проекту, “європейське” доволі часто присутнє на поверхнєвому рівні і функціонує у якості презентабельної обгортки глибоко вкорінених у повсякденні практики архаїчних ціннісних конструктів: приміром, попри заявлену у фільмі активну, самодостатню й незалежну героїню-лікарку, продукт не проходить навіть тест Бекдел, а професійні якості героїні зовсім не знаходять відображення у сюжеті.
На завершення заходу усі виконавці проектів отримали сертифікати EUVOLIA і навіть виявили бажання прослухати курс повторно ? Ми щиро вдячні нашим чудовим студентам за позитивні відгуки і сподіваємося ще не раз зустрітися з ними на заходах проекту!

30 листопада у Запорізькому національному університеті відбулася, беззаперечно, одна з найголовніших наукових подій року – Всеукраїнський шекспірівський конкурс ім. Віталія Кейса під патронатом Міністерства освіти і науки України.
Вибір нашого університету у якості основної локації конкурсу не є випадковим, адже саме на базі ЗНУ вже багато років поспіль діє Український шекспірівський центр – головний організатор наукового заходу. Цьогоріч до традиційних партнерів ВШК – зокрема, Асоціації українок Америки, – приєднався і проект EUVOLIA.
Творчий спадок Вільяма Шекспіра – беззаперечне ядро західного канону, серцевина геному європейської цивілізації. Не дивно, що героям великого драматурга відведене почесне місце у навчальній програмі курсу “Європейські цінності у художніх текстах”, а учасниці EUVOLIA Катерина Василина та Олена Тупахіна увійшли до складу журі ВШУ. Навіть далека відстань (обидві викладачки наразі здійснюють підвищення кваліфікації в університеті м. Фоджа в Італії) не завадила команді EUVOLIA прослухати у форматі скайп-конференції доповіді учасників з усієї України, поставити їм запитання і визначити найкращих.
